My name is Courtney Sheridan I am fifth teen years old. I live in Co. Offaly in Ireland, I have two brothers, Jamie who is nineteen and Dale who is seven teen . I go to ArdScoil RathIomghain in Rathangan in Co. Kildare I am a third year student studying for my junior certificate. The subjects I am doing are Maths, English, Irish, German, Geography, Religion, Art, Business and Home Economics.
I joined Rebecca De Havalland modelling agency in June 2012, in October 2012 I went to Jamaica to represent Ireland in the United Nation pageant, While in Jamaica I met up with various girls from all over the world, we were in Jamaica for a week. During the week we attended different excursions which included visiting the all ages children school in Negril where we donated school supplies to the children, we went to the world famous Ricks Cafe and done a photo shoot there, we had some press conferences and photo shoots.
There were four categories in which all the girls were judged, these included an interview, fashion, sports and ballgown presentation.
On each of these categories we were scored on points and the final wad held on the Sunday night. We had to model on stage in our various costumes. There was five judges in total. At the end of the show the points were all added up. When the judge called out my name as the winner of Miss Teen United Nation International I couldn’t believe it, it was the happiest moment of my life.
The United Nation Pageant is not just about beauty on the outside but it is also about beauty from within and doing charity work for your chosen charity. The charity I choose to work with is Suicide aware, this charity is very close to me and I intend to do as much as I can for it. I have raised some money so far but this is only the beginning for me.
My future goal in life is to get into modelling full time and also continue to raise awareness for my chosen charity.
The reason I chose suicide aware as my charity is because I lost two of my very close friends to this within six months. My friends were only 14 and 15 when they lost they lives.
When my friend died I got red wristbands done up with his name on them. I sold them for €2 each. Everybody wanted them so they sold out and i had to order more. I donated the money I made from this to suicide aware. It is so lovely to see all my friends wearing the wristbands.
I also held a raffle which allot of people donated prizes too, i sold tickets for one strip it was €2 and for three strips it was €5. This was very successful and I raised €290.
In May I am doing a 10K run in the Curragh in Co. Kildare for suicide aware. I will get a sponsorship card for this and hopefully everyone will support me. The money I raise will go to suicide aware, I am also doing the Flora Mini Marathon in June for Suicide Aware.
I strongly feel that something has to be done with suicide rates in Ireland as the numbers are getting higher every year.
