Miss United Nation & UNICEF Canada Ambassador
Solange Tuyishime is from Fredericton New Brunswick. Shewas born and raised in East Africa and at the age of 13 sheescaped from the war and moved to Canada.
She continued her education at École Sainte-Anne where sheplayed various sports and was captain of the girl’s soccer teamduring her graduating year. Solange graduated from ÉcoleSainte-Anne in 2001 with a scholarship from the Knights of Columbus.
Solange continued her education at St-Thomas Universitywhere she received a $6000 ATV Media Scholarship, awardedto a third year student who demonstrates an interest inbroadcast journalism. In 2005, she graduated with a Bachelorof Applied Arts in Journalism (Honours) in French.
Solange has been supporting the community development. Formany years she volunteered with the Multicultural Associationof Fredericton, and for three consecutive years, Solange also volunteered at the YMCA as asoccer coach for Grade 5 and 6 children.
Remembering her roots and taking a role in the community, Solange was a member of theAfrican Student Union for numerous years, during which she was Vice President for twoconsecutive years.
On August 27th 2005, Solange Tuyishime was crowned as Miss Canada International 2006 andheld the title until crowning her successor in August of 2007.
Making history, Solange not only became the first title holder from New Brunswick to win anational title, but she was also the first Black woman to hold such a title amongst all otherspageants in Canada.
In 2007, Solange decided to further her education, and graduated with a Master’s in PublicAdministrations from the University of Moncton in May 2008.
In 2010, Solange was nominated United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF)’s 2010 OfficialSpokesperson for Walk for Water. For two consecutive years, 2010 and 2011, Solange becamethe Spokesperson for UNICEF Canada National Campaign where her DVD was distributed inover 3000 schools.
On November 19th, 2011, Solange was crowned Miss United Nation 2011-2012, making this herthird opportunity to represent Canada Internationally. In recent years, Solange Tuyishime wascrowned Miss Canada International Miss Canada Galaxy 2011.
Today, Solange has the honour of being UNICEF Canada’s Ambassador, with the objective toencourage fundraising efforts, to educate and engage many in missions seeking to give everychild change and opportunity in life to survive and thrive. In the future Solange hopes to be UN’sGoodwill Ambassador for children’s wellbeing and education.
